Mark Aubert - Easy On Yourself
On the 4th day of the year how are those New Year’s resolutions going? I normally don’t make resolutions because you should really be making little changes to improve your quality of life constantly. But one of my goals is to be easier on myself in the new year and not give myself such a hard time about things that in the end don’t really matter. Hopefully I can follow this advice, my life would probably be a lot more enjoyable.
This Bay Area kid drawing from Dionne Warwick’s take on ‘Make it Easy on Yourself’ slices and dices a hip swayer into a head knocker, with the mold on the vinyl record aesthetic. You can find this off Mark’s beat tape Fake Island in a ones and zeros version [digital] since all of the hard plastic versions [cassettes] are sold out.

Angel Olsen - Tiniest Seed
Holy crap. After watching this I don’t know what to do with myself, it’s breathtaking. I feel like I need to go out in the back yard and pet my dog and ask him “How you doing big fella?”
Shot on 16mm film. The backstory thanks to NPR below
The score was mailed back across the Atlantic and then interpreted using a hand-wound 16mm camera. Two rolls of film were shot in barns and fields, and in gorges and on piers in Upstate, New York. The beginning of the score called for a meiotic effect to be used in tandem with the song “Tiniest Seed.” The film was exposed and then rewound and re-exposed many times. Later in the score a more intuitive approach to shooting was the direction, as a reaction to the song “Sweet Dreams.” These images were collected with the foreknowledge that the film would be extensively manipulated in the darkroom. The film was mailed back to Vienna. An archaic homemade contact printer was used to create the final look and that film was hand-processed, and rinsed and repeated all in the same room in which the score began. The final version is the documentation of an epistolary-exchange lasting nearly a year. It is an attempt to sync the unsyncable and our experiment at reconciling the space between us. Every hand visible in the final film. A 16mm print available and recommended for screening purposes. This is the digital version.

Don’t ask me how to say this San Fran project’s name. It doesn’t really matter anyhow. You just need to sway your hips. But you start by boogieing by yourself in the middle of the dance floor, diverting your “sexy eyes” to that attractive girl/boy chillin’ on the side using the most sultry moves you got to sway them out as the overhead lights match your moves as though the two of you were dancing.
